Mentoring Program

July 8, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Many students have joined the Design and Technology Mentoring program offered by way of the website www.designandtechhelp.com.

Lots of students have asked me why have I offered my time so cheaply, other coaching schemes cost hundreds of dollars?

“My aim is to put information out there!” the small amount received covers the cost for software web operating costs.

If you need help even at this late stage please email me on technology1@exemail.com.au

All the best with your project

regards

Honesty in the HSC MDP

July 7, 2009 · Leave a Comment

All final year D& T students are particularly busy at this point of the year; however it is about this time each year that a timely reminder about honesty is raised.
It is reasonable to expect that not all students will have all the specialised skills to complete all aspects of their project. It is important to make mention in your folio if you subcontract out some manufacturing of your Major Design Project. Also make sure you discuss this aspect with your teacher

The importance of quality research in Design and Technology projects

September 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

An often asked question by Design and Technology students is” how many pages should my research be? ” What is the purpose of research?    To put you in an informed position about a topic. The more research, the better the knowledge!

A powerful tool is the use of surveys, more on surveys in my next blog.

Happy researching students.

Looking forward to hearing from you with your project ideas for 2009.

Setting up your MDP for the HSC Markers

August 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I have had a lot of emails about many aspects of students projects from ‘how to set out the folio’ to ‘the best methods of displaying projects’. These aspects are fully covered in a section of the eBook.

Can I say this!

Keep your cool you are almost there ;the goal is in sight.

Most people have said they are flat out on the folio and the MD Project and have not even thought about how they will set up.

Force yourself to sit down and reinvent the project. What do i mean?

When you first had the dream of manufacturing the project you are working on, you had a million ideas, use those ideas to think about how you will sell the concept to the markers. For example if you have the better bed for emergencies dress the space with information to set the scene.

Keep your head down and working hard.

all the best

Design and Technology – new web page look

June 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

My first webpage was put together rather quickly so students could contact me about the eBook.

I have recently redesigned the site with more information and more tips for students. It is now more ‘user friendly’.

I also have a competition running.

Thank you for your comments about the Design and TechnologyeBook

June 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

My intention when I originally wrote the eBook was to put practical information in the hands of students. Information about how to avoid the mistakes other people have made, how best to display your project for marking.

One teacher from overseas who purchased the eBook put it this way in an email to me ” when it comes to practical information on how to display your MDP there is nothing to assist students. Keep up the find work and look forward to more from you”. I really appreciate this feedback folks.

Design and Technology -HSC students are you ready?

May 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

If you are a Design and Technology student you should start and think about how you will best display your Major Design Project. Have you asked your D& T Teacher how much space will be available per student and where will you be required to display the project for the markers?

Design and Technology -Olympics torch

May 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Just like the Olympics you need to strive for the very best standards for your project. One aspect often overlooked is the quality of the surface finish on HSC Major Design Projects. Take time to find out about surface preparation and surface finishes. If you feel you can not do justice to the final finish , sub contract out the spray painting. Not everyone is able to do all aspects of every job.

Happy reading and do not forget my Design and Technology eBook with heaps of hints and tips to get better marks in your HSC.
